Brief Motivation
Francis K. Boachie is a chartered Engineer UK/EC, a Professional member of Ghana Institute of Engineering and has had a lot of experience working with many people with thirty-two (32) years combined experience in the UK and in Ghana. Francis has developed many skills in the technical, professional and management acumen to meet the expectations required for the role advertised.
Francis worked five years post his first degree in Ghana and then left to study and worked in the UK before returning to Ghana in 2008 to the University of Ghana where he has been for the past seventeen (17) years first as the Deputy Director of IT infrastructure responsible for IT infrastructure, IP network design, deployment, refurbishing and support whiles mentoring new crop of IP and security Engineers for the University and the country at large.
With the background of working at the British Telecommunications PLC UK in several roles as a IP Professional and Senior Professional Engineer across the globe and having worked with the University of Ghana in the Information Technology ecosystem supporting and running the country-wide University’s network over the years, I am at the point where I could support the management and administrative roles required by an AFRINIC Director as advertised to help manage the IP resources for Africa's Technology Strategy as espoused by Digital Economy for Africa (DE4A) initiative.
IP resources are what will keep Africa connected and need to be managed well.
Professional Background
Ing. Francis K Boachie is a chartered Engineer UK/EC, a Professional member of Ghana Institution of Engineering and an IT professional with thirty-two (32) years of professional experience working in both UK and Ghana.
He has been an IT Administrator at the University of Ghana since his relocation from the UK working with the British Telecommunication in various roles from 2001 till 2008. He has interest in the use of IT for development in the context of a developing country in the Global South.
He is passionate about leadership that brings results in the development and deployment of IT for developing economies. Francis provides consultancy services in the planning and deployment of IT solutions and services that have greater impact to SMEs and corporate entities. He has served on various committees and councils and was on the Board of Ghana – India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT until January 2025, and the Chairman of IT Steering committee for the University of Ghana Medical Centre and also a member of the oversight committee of the Judicial Service of Ghana’s e-Justice Systems.
He had his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Electronic Engineering at KNUST in Kumasi – Ghana in 1993, Master of Science in Information Engineering at City, University of London in 2000 and Master of Business Administration at the University of Wales in 2012 both in the UK. He is married with five children and a practicing Christian and currently the Chief IT Officer at the University of Ghana where he is leading IT services to support the University’s vision of becoming research intensive and one of the top Universities in Africa.
During my work at the University, I have led teams to deliver a world class data centre as the foundation for a future cloud infrastructure leveraging my experience in working at BT in 2009 for ICT distance education project to the tune of $8 million dollars and in 2013 led a Cloud-based Infrastructure for the HP Matrix solution and services to all the ten regional centres for distance education to tune of $37 million US dollars. In the same year, the government of Ghana with an agreement with the Israeli company started the project of building a Teaching Hospital valued $217 million dollars for the University and Francis was selected to the project implementation committee as IT Specialist/consultant delivering a world class IT enabled Hospital within the West African Region.
Francis has travelled around the world, having travelled to China, India, the US and several countries within the EU and few countries within the African continent.
During his working at the British Telecom, he had a ten-year security clearance working with BT when he led the design, deployment and operationalization of the Ministry of Defence network of the UK. He has had security training, appreciation and indeed worked with one of the highest standards of security protocols in IP networking with the highest expectation of credibility and honesty.
